Israel's oppression of Palestinians: What can Muslim countries do?

For the past two days, Israeli police and army have used force to disperse worshipers and Palestinian youth in and around Al-Aqsa Mosque, injuring about 300 people. Some Israeli police officers were also injured in the youth pelting. Fresh troops and police have been called in to restore order in Jerusalem. Protests have also taken place in Gaza following the violence against worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque and widespread outrage is being felt.

Leaders around the world have condemned the provocative action against Palestinians during the holy month of Ramadan and called on the Israeli government to restore law and order. Meanwhile, the Egyptian government is trying to end the latest tensions between Israel and the Palestinians. However, Palestinians in East Jerusalem are outraged by the court's decision to forcibly evict some Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah area. A local court has ordered some Palestinian families to leave their family homes and property so that Jewish settlers can build their own homes there. The Israeli Supreme Court will hear the case on Monday. Failure to be heard in the Supreme Court will increase the insecurity of the Arab population in Jerusalem, which could lead to long-term unrest and provocation.

Several countries, including the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia, have called on the Israeli prime minister to renounce police brutality and violence. On the other hand, Arab and Muslim countries have strongly condemned the torture of Palestinians on Goodbye Friday and Laylat al-Qadr. Pakistan's President Arif Ali, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi have also expressed outrage and frustration over the tragedy in their statements. Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a tweet that the move violated all human values and international law. We stand with the Palestinian people and call on the international community to ensure the rights of the Palestinian people. " In a statement, President Arif Alawi called the incident "Israeli apartheid" against the Palestinians and said "the time is near when world politics will be based on moral principles rather than interests."

It is not known when this wish of the Pakistani president will be fulfilled, but at present there is no possibility of reducing Israeli oppression against the Palestinians. The Palestinian leadership has long recognized Israel's right as a state, which was at the heart of the conflict, but Israel has continued to aggressively pursue a conciliatory strategy with the Palestinians and find a political solution based on a two-state formula. Not ready to search. The issue of Jewish settlements, especially in the Palestinian territories, is inhumane and a matter of life and death for Palestinians. But no international body, including the United Nations, is in a position to stop Israel and abandon its unjust policies. Former US President Donald Trump had become so pro-Israel that he announced the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem as soon as he became president, although he did not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, considering it a disputed territory. Goes Israel claims full access to Jerusalem as its historic center, while the Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the future capital of a Palestinian state.

Israel's unilateral claim to Jerusalem is also unacceptable, as the area is not only sacred to Jews, but also to Muslim and Christian holy sites. In this sense, the city needs to recognize the right of people of all faiths to access and worship freely. Since the establishment of the state of Israel, Israel has occupied large Palestinian territories on the basis of the weakness of the Arab countries and the patronage of the United States. According to UN resolutions, Israel should hand over the territories occupied in 1967 to the Palestinians, but it is not ready to follow this unanimous international opinion. The conflict has been exacerbated by Jewish settlements in the occupied Arab territories under Netanyahu's extremist regime, but instead of forcing Israel to speak with one voice on this one-point agenda, They are focused on improving bilateral relations through diplomatic relations.

Recognizing Israel and resuming diplomatic relations with it may be a matter of time. International relations and international diplomacy can no longer afford confrontation and stubbornness, but the Arab countries have not sought any guarantee on the Palestinian cause in their dealings with Israel. Apparently, all the Arab countries show solidarity with the Palestinians and after an unfortunate incident, condemnatory statements are issued loudly from every Arab capital. Not at the top of the agenda. So it is not surprising that the Israeli government also ignores the basic human rights of the Palestinians and deprives them of their freedom by force. The intensity with which the Arab countries are confronting Iran or the war is being waged on Yemen under the leadership of Saudi Arabia. You had to agree to an agreement to give the right.

In the current situation, the statements of the Arab countries are in support of the Palestinians, but their policies are a continuation of their support for Israeli oppression. The Israeli government is well aware of which Arab country is willing to go to great lengths to deal with it. This contradiction of words and deeds is in fact the cause of the suffering of the Palestinians and the defeat of the Arab world. One aspect of this picture is that Israel has strengthened its democratic system and provided its people with basic human rights and civil liberties, despite its fascist tactics against the Palestinians and its constant state of war. But no Arab or other Muslim country can imagine providing the same freedoms to its citizens. Democracy and human rights are foreign terms in most of the Islamic world. How and on what basis can countries that deprive their own citizens of their liberties be active for the freedom and fundamental rights of the Palestinian people?

In Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Israeli policies and the situation of the Palestinian people are considered a burden on the human conscience and it is said that the civilized countries of the world should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard. But at the same time, all Muslim countries, through their systems of government and methods of governance, are spreading the message that Muslims need to be oppressed by force rather than freedom. The rulers who impose tyrannical and authoritarian rule on their people will finally offer an explanation of this practice in their talks with their Western counterparts. One of the arguments, of course, is that Islam does not support Western-style democracy. How can leaders and countries that deny democratic tradition and human dignity on the basis of faith be a wall of resistance against the injustices perpetrated against the Palestinians?

In addition to the discriminatory and cruel treatment of Muslims in China, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and other countries, systems have been imposed on the people of Palestine and Kashmir for the last seventy years. Despite passing resolutions and issuing statements on this atrocity by Israel and India, the right of Palestinians and Kashmiris to freedom could not be recognized. If the Muslim leadership looks into its own collar, its primary responsibility falls on them. In order to give rights to the Muslims of other countries and to liberate Kashmir and Palestine, the Muslim countries must first accept the basic concept of freedom and democracy wholeheartedly.
