Testing the New Accident Prevention Technology Introduced by Honda

Honda enriches Honda Sensing's driving safety technology. A number of safety features are integrated. Everything relies on the front-mounted millimeter wave radar and camera sensors.

We had the opportunity to try out Honda's new technology at the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) circuit in Karima, Tsukuba, Ibaraki last Friday (26/10). CRVs and Insight sedans that have been fitted with the system.

I feel nervous when driving a car but not allowed to brake or hurry. Turning the steering wheel is only allowed when ordered. Even though the circuit was wet due to heavy rain all day.

The activation of the safety system is at one button on the steering panel. The buttons represent all safety features. One of them is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). This system makes the car move automatically to follow the vehicle in front of it. "Either walking or stopping," said Tanaka, one of the accompanying instructors.

What makes me horrified when the car in front of him suddenly stops. But you can't brake. When the vehicle is in front stops suddenly, the Collision Mitigation Breaking System (CMBS) works. Another term, automatic braking system. The car runs again when the vehicle in front of the road, even though it is not stepping on the gas pedal.

Another safety feature is the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). This system is a feature that makes the car consistently run in its lane. Follow the white line for the road markings. As long as there are road markings, the vehicles will be directed to follow the line. What if someone breaks the markers by painting or scribbling the markers.

“There are times when a feature doesn't work due to such conditions. Including if the marbles are thin or the color is faded, "said Tanaka.

Well, when the car moves off track due to various factors without the driver noticing it, the Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system works. This system provides early warning when the car is diverted.

The warning is gradual. Initially only a notification through the light on the driver's panel coincided with a sound. If the driver has not responded, the steering wheel vibrates. This is to anticipate that the driver is sleepy. It is hoped that the vibration can wake up the driver. Well, if there is still no response, the steering wheel will move itself back to the correct lane.

But if that's not possible and the car almost crashes, then the CMBS system is working. He will automatically stop himself. The system is expected to prevent accidents. Either because of the driver, or outside the driver.
